Harney Peak Lookout Tower
Sylvan Lake
This summer our family took a road trip to South Dakota and Wyoming. Mt. Rushmore has been on our bucket list for several years. We stayed in the town of Custer which was close to Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. The above photos were a few our favorite places in South Dakota. The view from Harney Peak was worth the seven mile hike to get there. Sylvan Lake is where a scene from the movie National Treasure 2 was filmed. It’s the place Nicholas Cage sticks his hand in the rock with the eagle symbol on it. I think we found the rock, but no eagle (Hollywood magic). We also had our best meal on the whole trip at the Sylvan Lake Lodge. It was so good we ate there twice. If you’ve ever been to South Dakota please feel free to comment on your favorite places. Now we just need to get to Yellowstone and Yosemite one these days.

These trips really are the BEST. We did one trip along the Northern route and saw similar sights, and another along the southern route to see Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, Sedona, and eventually Yosemite. Jackson Lake Lodge and the Tetons were one of my favorite sights!

You covered a lot of ground. I still haven’t gotten to Yosemite yet, but one of these days I will 🙂
