Mondays I like to share something that makes me smile. This story not only made me smile, but laugh hysterically. If you know my daughter you will find the humor in it, but if you don’t it may not seem quite as funny. My daughter is preparing to make her confirmation this Spring. The Catholic faith asks you to choose a saint that emulates qualities you admire and you add their name to your given name. My daughter and her sponsor have been researching the different saints and what they represent. After narrowing it down to a few saints whose names she likes such as St. Priscilla, St. Rose, and St. Anne she decided on St. Clare. She helped Saint Francis of Assisi who my daughter really likes and is the patron saint of eye disease. Her main reason for choosing St. Clare was because of her ties with St. Francis.
My daughter loves to watch television, especially reality shows: Dance Moms, Say Yes to the Dress, Toddlers and Tiaras, The Kardashians, Long Island Medium and the list goes on. It is her favorite pastime next to looking at instagram on her phone. Her sponsor left a mini book of saints she found at a Hallmark store on our doorstep the day after they met to discuss her saint name. She left me a text saying it must be fate my daughter picked Clare. In this tiny book it describes St. Clare as the patron saint of eye disease and television. “Toward the end of her life St. Clare was too ill to attend Mass, but was miraculously able to see and hear it on the wall of her bedroom.” My daughter tends to be blind to me when the television is on and doesn’t hear me when I ask her to clean her room ten times. Somehow though she miraculously knows when a television show is on and can hear it from a mile away. You may say, what a funny coincidence. I say it’s fate.
