This Christmas Santa bought me a Keurig coffee maker. We had been toying with the idea of getting one and he decided we needed one since my husband was growing weary of making the coffee every morning. Yes, I’m spoiled and I admit it. I’m not a morning person. We have the B70 model and after running several gallons of water through it and still getting plastic tasting coffee I became increasingly frustrated. I was visiting my parents over the Christmas break and they happened to have one too. Their machine didn’t give off a plastic odor or taste and the coffee tasted great. When we got home from our travels my husband called Keurig. They sent us a new machine and we said bon voyage to our old one. I’m grateful this one doesn’t have the same plastic smelling odor and the coffee tastes fine. The Keurig home brewing system has been a lesson in trial and error for me. I think I mentioned in a previous post how learning things by trial and error is something that doesn’t bring me joy. I’m learning to find the joy in it though by purchasing some different types of coffee and branching out from my usual Dunkin Donuts regular blend. It can get rather expensive at roughly $16 dollars for a box of 24 individual k-cups. There are tons of different types of coffees, teas, and hot chocolate you can buy. The process of picking out k-cups can be overwhelming. I was going to write this post after I’d sampled more coffees, but thought I’d see if some of my readers could help me with my trial and error process and help me save a few dollars. I know they sell some multi packs, but I prefer a medium roast over the extra bold. I have tried the Dunkin Donuts Hot Chocolate and don’t care for it. So far I still like the Dunkin Donuts coffee and my husband likes the Cafe Escapes French Vanilla. I have heard that the Green Mountain Wild Blueberry coffee is good which is next on my list to try. If you have a Keurig, I welcome any suggestions or advice.

Dawn, my Dad gave me a the Mini Keurig for Christmas. I really like it. I too think the coffee cups are expensive. I haven’t had to buy any yet, mine came with a sample pack and my Dad got me a 48 cup Variety pack. It’s fun to try a different coffee each time. So far, I like the Green Mountain ‘Breakfast Blend’. But, I have many more to try; Kahlua, Donut Shop, etc… so, I’ll go thru what I have before I buy more. I do want to try tea too. I’ve been searching for a variety pack and haven’t been successful. I like a mellow coffee (like my wine 😉
I was thinking… wouldn’t it be fun to do a ‘Keurig Coffee k-cup swap’ ?

That’s not be a bad idea, especially if you have some you don’t like and other people do or want to try them. So far, I know you and Miki have one. I left a reply under her comment. Two new ones I tried and like are the Green Mountain Blueberry (I know it sounds strange) and Donut Shop Coconut Mocha. I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

We too got one and it had the “plastic” taste for a few days. We ran a few gallons of water thru it and it finally went away. Barry and I both prefer the Donut House collection by Green Mountain Coffee. My kids didn’t like the hot chocolate because it is made with water and they like Nestle hot chocolate made with milk. That has been Kennady’s breakfast for the past 3 years!!! We buy it at Costco in an 80 K-Cups box 🙂 because we drink 3-4 a day each. Expensive but so worth starting your day off right! I say when you find something you like stick with it 🙂

Thanks Miki. I agree with your girls, I didn’t like the hot chocolate either and I have made mine with water before. I didn’t see the k-cups at Costco and I was just there. I did find that Bed Bath & Beyond carries a huge variety. I found the Green Mountain Blueberry and it smells like a blueberry muffin and is surprisingly good. We bought a little sample of the Donut Shop Coconut Mocha and it’s good as well. I love coffee this time of year. I’m starting to make about two a day.

I’ve not tried the Tully’s Hawaiian blend. I’ll have to put it on my list!

The white cups are from Target last year I think.
