All of the recent snow days we’ve been having has equalled more television and movie time than normal. I wish I could say I’ve watched a lot of movies that I highly recommend, but I haven’t. However, we recently watched Here Comes the Boom starring Kevin James and I was pleasantly surprised. This got me thinking about other movies that left me feeling inspired. I have many more that I could list, but these were the first ones that came to mind.
Here Comes The Boom– This is a feel good movie where you root for the underdog. Kevin James is inspiring as a teacher who is determined to help a fellow music teacher keep his job. He believes in possibility where most people see the impossible, is determined, and displays perseverance despite tough times. The movie reminded me a little of Mr. Holland’s Opus which I haven’t seen in years.
Something’s Gotta Give– This movie inspires me from a visual standpoint. Diane Keaton’s beach house provides all sorts of inspiration for coastal living. If you are interested in seeing photos of the real house check out Hooked on Houses. It’s an addictive blog if you love looking at homes.
Hachi: A Dog’s Tale– This movie stars Richard Gere. If you don’t own a dog, it will make you want to go buy one. Hachi is based on a true story about the unconditional love and loyalty of a dog. Be sure to have a box of tissues handy.
Hotel Rwanda– Don Cheadle’s performance as a hotel manager is inspirational. It’s based on the true account of the Rwandan Genocide that happened in 1994. Be forewarned, it’s very graphic and also a tear jerker. It was an eye opener to me in terms of world events.
Every once in a while I glean inspiration from movies, but I mostly enjoy them from an entertainment perspective. Two fun and maybe lesser known movies which are favorites of mine are A Knights Tale and Duplex. If you enjoy movie trivia and learning more about movies check out the website IMBD. Please leave a comment and share what movie is inspirational to you.

I have several favorite movies, but I always go back to Beaches with Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey. I love the story of their friendship and how it evolves throughout the years.
(I like several of the movies you have listed too).

I have too many movies to suggest! Although, I have to say, it seems like movies aren’t as good as they used to be.
Thank you for sharing where to find the house in “As Good As It Gets” – I have been looking for it since I saw the movie.
In the last few days I have watched “5 Year Engagement”, “Wanderlust” and am going to watch “Love Actually” again.
I think “Heaven Can Wait” is one of my very favorites, plus “It’s A Wonderful Life”

I haven’t seen Heaven Can Wait in years. Good one! I’ll have to request it on Blockbuster.

Dawn, I watched Hotel Rwanda after you recommended it a few years ago, and it was wonderful! Life is Beautiful is one of my favorite movies, as well as The Pianist. I love the relationships in Steel Magnolias, Fried Green Tomatoes, Places in the Heart, and Driving Miss Daisy. Sports movies like Glory Road, Radio, Remember the Titans, We are Marshall, and Rudy are inspiring. Stories about overcoming odds – The Pursuit of Happyness, The Help, Shawshank Redemption and The Color Purple are great movies. Bella, The Blind Side, Facing the Giants, and The Passion of the Christ are amazing faith-based stories.
I do realize these are all pretty old – I need to see some new movies!

Thanks for sharing Becky. Those are all good movies. There are a few I haven’t seen like Life is Beautiful. Can you believe it? I have to be in the right frame of mind for some of those tear jerkers.
