I love going to the movies or even just watching movies at home. Over the past few days I’ve seen two movies with friends which is a nice treat. We saw Side Effects which is a psychological thriller and stars Channing Tatum and Jude Law. We all agreed it was very good and not just because of Channing and Jude. I also watched Beasts of the Southern Wild which is up for an Academy Award at a friend’s house. It’s about a little girls life in the swamplands off the coast of southern Louisiana. A hurricane comes reminiscent of Hurricane Katrina and the people of the swampland refuse to leave their homes. I have a feeling there’s some symbolism to the movie that was over my head. It’s somewhat sad and I think what saddens me the most is that I’m sure it’s very realistic to how some people live. They are both very different movies.
I love cupcakes. They’ve been very popular the last few years with cupcake stores popping up all over town. When I was in New York, my daughter and I sampled as many places as time and our stomachs allowed. Smallcakes is one of our favorite places to go for cupcakes locally. They have two locations close by 143rd & Metcalf and 119th in the Avignon Shopping Center in Olathe. I haven’t eaten a cupcake there I didn’t like. They have a standard menu, but usually offer a specialty cupcake each month as well. The peanut butter cup is my favorite. I also love the peanut butter and jelly. The peanut butter frosting is to die for (as my friend would say). Cupcakes are a simple joy for my taste buds, but unfortunately not for my waistline. I can usually just eat half of one though and feel satisfied.
On Monday I shared with you a you tube video from Kid President. This is Robbie, aka Kid President’s story. Robbie was born with osteogenesis imperfecta which means his bones break easily. His brother-in-law who assists in making the videos was inspired by Robbie’s resilient spirit. They made a video for their family and now they are making videos for millions of viewers to help spread hope and joy. Their message definitely gives me hope and joy, how about you? Have a joy filled weekend!
