It’s that time of year when school’s start cleaning out lockers and cabinets and lost and found items are at their all time high. College students are returning home for the summer and many of their things tend to get lost in the chaos. On a recent trip to K-State with my son, we visited my friend’s son’s fraternity house. The above notes were pinned to the fraternity bulletin board and made me smile. If you had been in this fraternity house let me just say that you would not be surprised things were missing. Their rooms made my teenage daughter’s room look like something out of Martha Stewart and my daughter is not organized. I will admit I’m a little bit anal when it comes to keeping things neat, but I honestly don’t know how these boys find anything.
As a mother it’s frustrating when your kids can’t find something and expect you to make it miraculously appear for them. I’ve been known to organize things so well that I can’t find them. However, in most cases it’s because my kids have left something at a friends or it’s buried at the bottom of a pile of clothes. Once your kids have left the nest you aren’t there to blame or left searching for things that are their responsibility. They are forced to search for themselves and this my friends makes me smile!

Joy,
I laughed out loud reading those notes. It felt like there was a sentence missing at the end of each and every one, “My Mom is coming to pick me up in 2 days and she’ll notice if I don’t have it. Otherwise I’m not sure I care.”
As a long time camp counselor, I was always stunned by the one or two kids in the bunk who were loosey goosey about every item, until an hour before Visitor’s Day when they had a panic attack. And then you met the Mom and you understood.
Anyways, thanks for sharing this photo, it made me smile, too!
