The change in seasons is a simple joy for me. I’m never quite ready for winter but I love fall .
crisp fall nights
pumpkins
bright red and yellow leaves
comfort foods like soup and chili
bonfires
watching my kids perform in the marching band at high school football games
candles
hot baths
bittersweet stems
I put away my most of my shells and bring out little touches of fall decor to display around my home. As you can see from my photos I still love owls. I like surrounding myself with fall decor for a few short months before it’s time to bring out all of my Christmas decorations.
I collect these trick -or-treater figurines by Artist, Lori Mitchell. I fell in love with them years ago and used to add one or two to my collection every year. However, the sofa table I display them on is pretty full. Unless I find one I must have, I’ve put a halt to any new additions. This takes some tremendous will power at times. They are just so darn cute. Do you collect Lori Mitchell figurines? She makes them for all of the holidays and special themes as well.
My front door wreath and outdoor pot were inspired by Ricki at Red Cedar Nursery. She has the most creative containers and I love taking classes at Red Cedar. I’ve written about Red Cedar in a past post here. I had purchased the leaf wreath last year from Target, but it needed a little something extra. Red Cedar sells metal owls you can screw onto a branch. Ricki’s husband kindly assembled mine because I knew it would probably never get done. I wired the owl and branch to my wreath and then added a wire bittersweet stem I had from a past project.
I had some fountain grass in my front porch container left from my summer arrangement. I added a few okra stems from Red Cedar to the fountain grass. I thought they were unique and I love things that are different and unexpected. I simply added an owl statue, a pumpkin, a gourd and a few hedge apples from a trail by my house. At first I poked tree limbs around the side for a spiller, but they quickly dried up. I then decided to add spanish moss for a creepy effect and wrapped a large spider that I wasn’t using around the pot.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a few of my little touches of fall around my home. Have a great weekend!

WOW! Dawn this is beautiful. I feel like slug now! My house is jealous of your house. I must snap to it and create something!!! I love your creativity, and what I love most, is that I recognize most of it! Makes me look around the house and think “how can a use what i have and add some nature”. Excellent work, woman!

You have such a good eye, Dawn. I wish you could come over and decorate my home! I pulled out my fall stuff last week. Not quite as cute as yours, but I still enjoy it. I’m a long way away from being ready for the “green and red”… fall is a beautiful season and I love the hues.
