This past week was my kids Spring Break from school. My husband was traveling to Las Vegas for work so the kids and I decided to meet him there for a few days which is plenty of time in Vegas. It’s not exactly the ideal place for children, but as teenagers my kids were able to see what life is like outside of our little bubble both good and bad. The weather was perfect, 80 and sunny. We also had the opportunity to visit with my husband’s Aunts and see my Aunt and Uncle who were passing through. I’ve highlighted a few of my favorite things to do in Las Vegas.
I used my iPhone to take all of my pictures because I didn’t want to lug my big camera around. I’m not much of a gambler so we did a lot of walking and sight-seeing. If you’ve never been to Vegas it is definitely a sight to be seen and there are some sights you are better off not seeing.
My husband and daughter love riding the roller coaster at New York, New York which wraps around the outside of the hotel. We also love to eat at Greenberg’s Deli inside the hotel. New York City is one of my favorite places. I’ve written about past trips here and here.
We ate at Chef Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant Burgr inside Planet Hollywood. What’s not to love about gourmet hamburgers and truffle parmesan fries? We also stayed at Planet Hollywood which was conveniently located next to the Miracle Mile Mall.
One of my favorite hotels is the Bellagio. The Bellagio has a huge fountain located in the front which goes off every half hour to synchronized music. My two favorite things about the Bellagio are:
- The 2,000 hand-blown glass blossoms which are part of the chandelier Fiori di Como, sculpted by Dale Chilhuly.
- The conservatory and botanical gardens whose current exhibit is titled Spring Celebration. This photo is part of a large portrait filled with fresh botanicals.
This trip we saw two Cirque du Soleil shows The Beatles Love and Zarkana. I’ve also seen Mystère, but I would have to say Love is my favorite of the three. If you like Beatle’s music, you’ll enjoy this show.
One of our favorite places to eat is Chef Wolfgang Puck’s Spago restaurant located inside Casear’s Forum Shops.
The new ferris wheel wasn’t in operation yet for us to ride. My husband wanted me to snap this picture, because it looked cool with the moon behind it. It reminds me of the London Eye which I wrote about here.
We had a nice trip and it’s always nice to get away for a few days. However, I’ve decided I might be getting too old for Vegas. I enjoy fresh air and not inhaling other people’s cigarette smoke. If you’re a fan of Vegas please share any of your favorites in the comments. If you’re on Instagram, you can follow me here and check out other pictures I’ll be posting.

Hubby and I are seriously considering going to Las Vegas for our 20th anniversary. Thanks for the post on your thoughts!

If you’ve never been before the hotels really are pretty extraordinary. There is a ton of stimulation so it’s not exactly a relaxing trip, but there are all sorts of things you can do even if you’re not a gambler. If you like to play the slot machines it’s paradise. My only other tip would be to wear comfortable shoes because you will do a ton of walking. The hotels don’t look that far apart on the strip, but they are.

We went many years ago when I was a senior in highschool. I remember my mom and I just walking at night…it was surreal and I’m sure it is even more! We hope to catch a show and just walk around. Time alone is always good 🙂

How fun! Our seats were in the second row so everything was up close. Loved it!! I think it was my favorite part of the trip.

Sounds like a fun trip, Dawn! I love Vegas! We’ve been a thousand times and I’ve decided I love staying in the old downtown part rather than any of the hotels on the strip. My favorite if the Golden Nugget. I love their pool. At night they have awesome light shows every hour and you can easily walk from hotel to hotel….and for the non gamblers there are tons of outdoor vendors, entertainment, and people watching. There’s something for everyone. I loved the Beatles Love show, too. It’s one of my favorites.

Oh Vegas!!!! I lived there for 14 years, believe or not! Looks like you did a lot in a few days. I like to go back because I have family and friends there but we don’t do too much of the Strip. I do love the shows and Love is definitely on my list of favorites!! Thanks for sharing your adventure!! xo

I didn’t realize you lived there. I’m sure Vegas is much different outside of the strip, but that’s the only part I’ve ever experienced. If I ever go back I’ll have to consult you on other things to do. We did a pink jeep tour to the Hoover Dam several years ago and that was fun.

The pictures are fantastic! Not being much of a gambler (or drinker) myself and since I live in NYC, I’ve never understood the lore. Maybe one day…

I definitely prefer NYC Stacey, but some of the hotels are pretty incredible to see at least once in your lifetime 🙂
