I look forward to watching the Academy Awards every year. This year I actually saw five out of the nine films nominated. The four I didn’t get to see before this year’s awards ceremony were Gravity, Her, 12 Years A Slave and Nebraska. I wasn’t initially too keen on seeing Gravity, but after several friends told me how much they loved it I’ve now become intrigued.
I love Ellen, but I felt this year’s show was a little sleepy which resulted in eating more snacks. However, there were a few memorable moments.
Some of my favorite highlights:
- Jared Leto’s acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor Award in Dallas Buyers Club. He gave an amazing performance!
- Pharrrell’s performance of Happy!
- Jennifer Lawrence’s necklace.
- I didn’t see 12 Years A Slave, but Lupita Nyong’o speech was beautiful!
- The trailer for June Squibb’s performance in Nebraska.
- Pink’s performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Her dress however, was a different story. A little too much ruby-red glitter for my liking and the neckline reminded me of 90 percent of Amy Adam’s wardrobe in American Hustle.
- Alright, alright, alright, Matthew McConaughey! Excellent speech to end the night and an amazing performance in Dallas Buyers Club.
It has always been a dream of mine to attend the Academy Awards show. I would be happy just being a seat filler while celebrities take a bathroom break. In February of 2011 I had the opportunity to attend Oprah’s After Oscar Party at the Kodak Theater the day after the awards show. You can read the full story here. It was a serendipitous moment and I wish I could say a joyful moment, but at the time I just wanted a nice warm bed. There’s something to be said for watching the Oscars in your pajamas, in the comfort of your home with a fire burning, a bag of Lay’s potato chips, and following The Dose Tweets.
What was your favorite movie this year and if you watched the Oscars, what was your favorite moment?

I enjoyed checking out what you and Lisa had to say during the time between best supporting actor and best actor which was a very, very, long time 🙂 You and I are going to be in one of those selfies one day with Ellen and the gang. I’m putting it out there 🙂

I didn’t watch it…..I’m not a big fan of awards shows. However, if given a ticket I would go. :-).

I didn’t watch the whole Academy Awards…..it’s soooo long. I was too tired after my scrapbooking retreat to stay awake. But I did like Jared Leto’s speach too. I thought it was funny when Ellen brought in pizza….I’m sure they were starved to get into those dresses. I didn’t watch all the movies either but I’m glad Matthew McConaughey won for Dallas Buyers Club. What he did to his body to play the roll was amazing.

Matthew and Jared were both amazing in Dallas Buyers club. I missed the pizza part with Ellen, but heard it was funny. I must have been upstairs getting a snack 🙂

I sometimes watch the Oscars, this year we were in Rome – oh well! HA!
I really enjoy watching the main awards, but I must have adult ADD because I just cannot sit through all the other superfluous things. I do wish I had seen Idina Menzel sing “Let It Go” – she is amazing! Out of the 9 films nominated, I had only heard of 5; and only seen 1 – Gravity. Which was good, but I can’t say it was great. I’m intrigued by Dallas Buyers Club, gonna put that in my Netflix queue. I LOVE Matthew McConaughey – hubba, hubba!

I would take Rome any day over the Oscars! Lucky you! I have a hard time sitting through all of the middle stuff as well. I know it’s equally as important in terms of what goes into making a movie, but the truth is, unless you are in that field most people just want to see the acting awards. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story. It’s good, but very intense/depressing/motivating. It’s not one that I’d probably re-watch. If you see it you’ll understand why they won the awards, amazing performances.

Now I have to read your Oprah story! And there is nothing wrong with more snacks!!

I love the Oscars, too!! I love escaping into the world of Hollywood for the night. I love voting along. I love the dresses. I love the speeches. And I so agree: Jared Leto had the speech of the night. As did Lupita, as did Matthew McCounaghey. Not to mention, Dallas Buyer’s Club was an excellent, excellent film.
