The holidays are swiftly approaching and malls will be buzzing with people running around frantically looking for gifts. With the holidays come lots of parties and it’s always a nice gesture to bring a little hostess gift. I’ve put together a few hostess gift ideas I think make a nice gift and that people can use. You can also purchase almost all of these items online within the comfort of your home.
1. I love the brand Mud Pie. I’ve found several of their products in various stores and own a few of their items. The cutting board set shown I found on Amazon. The butter knife says Butter My Buns and Call Me A Biscuit. The Mud Pie Website also has an assortment of cutting board gift sets to choose from. I could fill a whole gift guide with just their products. I’m an Amazon affiliate so if you use the Amazon link I get a very small credit which helps cover some of the costs of my website.
2. I love Williams Sonoma’s Essential Oil Hand Soaps and Lotions. The Spiced Chestnut Scent is a staple in my half bath during the fall and winter months. They have a whole collection of items you can choose from and various scents.
3. Who couldn’t use a new kitchen towel? Tea towels make a great hostess gift. You can use them to wrap homemade bread or muffins. The tea towel pictured is from H & M and is fairly inexpensive so the hostess won’t have to feel guilty about using it. I have received some beautiful tea towels from Anthropologie that I love, but I hate to get them dirty. However, if you want to splurge they have some nice tea towels as well.
4. Candles make a great hostess gift any time of year. I love to give candles as a gift and have shared some of my favorites in the past here. I received this candle from Anthropologie as a gift and I love the beautiful container it comes in. The candles are made by Illume and come in various scents: vanilla and fig, angel food, sweet vanilla and cinnamon, oatmeal cookie and more.
5. Food gifts are also great options for a hostess gift especially if you don’t know the person very well. I’ve purchased this trio of flavored olive oils from Trader Joe’s for the past few years. It costs roughly $10 and makes a nice inexpensive gift. The flavors are lemon, basil and hot pepper. Trader Joe’s also features lots of specialty food items this time of year for gift giving.
6. This initial mug from World Market is classic looking and costs $5.99. You could purchase a set of them for a family or pair it with a package of tea, coffee or hot cocoa. If they are Downton Abbey fans be sure to include this canister of tea which can also be found at World Market.
7. Last year I gave several friends little evergreen plants I found at Home Depot and potted them in mercury glass containers and a clay pot wrapped in burlap. Amaryllis bulb kits and rosemary plants are also nice options and can usually be found at garden centers, Target or even in the grocery store.
I honestly hate to think about Christmas before we’ve even celebrated Thanksgiving, but every year it seems like I’m rushing to get things done. I guess that’s the hustle and bustle part of the holidays. I hope this gift guide helps you have a more peaceful holiday and takes some of the pressure off of finding a gift. If all else fails a bottle of wine is usually much appreciated and you can find all sorts of cute wine packaging ideas.
For more gift giving and wrapping ideas check out last year’s gift guide here. I also have tons of Christmas inspiration on my Gifts & Wrapping Ideas Pinterest Board and Christmas Pinterest Board. I will be sharing different guides every week up until Christmas of some of my favorite finds. If you don’t already subscribe to my blog you can do so here. I’d love to have you follow my mostly joyful scribblings!

ooooh, Nice! Great finds, Dawn. I love to give food gifts. These are some I haven’t seen and I will certainly check them out! BTW, my old rule was to wait for all Christmas shopping until after Thanksgiving. That has gone OUT the window! I’ve already made several gift purchases (including for myself)!

You always have some great finds Angela. I miss our shopping expeditions. I can’t wait to see what you’ve found this season!

I would like to host you, and you can bring me a gift! The olive oils would be my choice! Actually, I love all of these ideas, and so many of them would be great to have on hand through the holiday season when a friend stops by with an unexpected gift!

Sounds like a plan Chloe! I like to shop more than I like to cook 🙂 Williams Sonoma, Trader Joes, and Costco all have some great food gifts. I love when they come out with specialty items this time of year.

What great gifts, may I invite you 🙂
The US has so many lovely things we don’t have. I should really plan another visit to come shop.

I’d love to visit you Louise. You seem like a very welcoming hostess and your tablescapes are beautiful. I’m always up for a shopping spree as well.
