Welcome to my home for Christmas. I’ve loved checking out other blogger’s Christmas home tours and thought I’d share a peek into my home decorated for the holidays. My home is by no means glamorous, but I enjoy making it cozy and it has evolved and changed over the past 15 years. I have one Christmas tree that’s filled with ornaments I’ve collected and my kids have made over the years. Each year I try to use some of my Christmas decorations in different ways or in different rooms to give things a fresh look.
I follow several decorating blogs and sometimes things can appear to look effortless, but they aren’t. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into making a house look festive and cozy. This is part of my Santa collection which has grown over the years. I purchased the gold tray from Target this year and I like how it helps contain my Santas. You can never have too many trays.
This pillow of the KC Plaza Lights was also a new purchase this year. It’s made locally by Farm Dog Studios in Kansas City. I purchased the pillow at their booth at the Kansas City Holiday Boutique. They also make tons of cute signs and take custom orders. The lighting is horrible in my kitchen hearth area so this picture isn’t the best. I have a sunroom that we added on to our kitchen a few years ago which is what you see through the window. Last year I used the letter P on my front door which you can see in last year’s holiday decor post here.
I love all of the hot cocoa bars I’ve seen popping up on Pinterest. I even shared one I did for a party a few years ago HERE. I decided to repurpose my tray on my kitchen counter with items to make hot chocolate. The mason jars hold marshmallows, chocolate spoons, and peppermint sticks. This will be nice to have out all winter long and not just during the Christmas season. I also created a separate coffee station.
This is part of my sunroom which is one of my favorite rooms in our house. We have our Christmas tree and hang our stockings in this room. This rustic wood table is the first piece of furniture I bought for the space and was the inspiration behind my decorating scheme for the room. We have a television behind the cabinet doors above the fireplace which is why I don’t have any garland on my mantel. The fa-la-la-la-la garland is part of the Oh Joy line for Target.
I found this Santa at an antique store years ago and he’s one of my favorite decorations.
The boxwood wreath is from Target and I also purchased a few in a smaller size. I love them and will probably use them year round.
I was inspired by the tree I shared in an earlier post here. I loved how Courtney hung word garland on her Christmas tree. You could make your own, but I was pressed for time this year and purchased the Happy Holidays one at Target.
I’m really into the combination of black and gold right now and decided to use that color scheme for my gift wrap this year. I shared the printable gift tag link in this post. I also used the feather tags, gold mesh and magnolia leaves at my Thanksgiving table. I love when I can repurpose items.
We redid our half bathroom back in the Spring and I’ve been meaning to show you the before and after pictures, but this is a difficult room to photograph. It’s small and there’s no source of natural light so I was forced to turn the lights on. Once I can figure out a better way to photograph it, I’ll reshare the details along with the gallery wall not shown.
My pictures didn’t quite turn out to suit my standards. I’m still working on photographing interiors, but I came to the conclusion that sometimes good enough will have to do. It’s easy to compare ourselves and our homes to others, but we all have different tastes, styles and talents. I don’t think a home should be decorated to impress others. It should be an expression of you and what you love. I get my love of decorating from my mother who has always had a unique style of her own.
I hope you are surrounded by things and people you love this holiday season!

Thanks Denise! The best part about my tree is looking at all of the old ornaments the kids have made over the years. Merry Christmas!

Dawn it is beautiful! I had several thoughts while looking through your album. First, I love that you leave the Hot Chocolate Bar out all winter. Duh. why not? I’m making one TODAY!!! (as soon as I clear my cookie baking things away). Secondly, I used to photograph my decorated house just so I’d remember how I wanted it decorated for next year. BUT one of the many things I’ve learned from you is to change it up every year, make old things new by moving them around and adding a few new finds. And I’ve done that this year. LASTLY, your blog makes me feel human, sometimes “good enough will have to do”. I just didn’t have the time to do everything I wanted to do this year, but it just has to be good enough so I can enjoy the Holiday, too. THANKS for opening my eyes, Dawn!

Thanks so much Angela. I’ve really tried this year to enjoy the season more. I always have so many ideas and things I want to do, but not enough time. Somehow I can’t bring myself to start to planning in July like some people do. I’m sure your house looks beautiful and cozy and filled with lots of good food and love. Those are things your family will remember (that and your fake snow, wink, wink 🙂
