The spring season makes me want to freshen up my home with flowers and plants, incorporate lighter spring colors with pillows, and get rid of clutter. There are simple things you can do to pretty your space that don’t cost a fortune. I’ve rounded up 10 ideas to help you pretty your space.
1. Add some fresh flowers to a room. The Glitter Guide offers tips for decorating with flowers in your home.
2. Add a throw to your couch or chair in a pretty spring color like the one Julie Blanner displays above.
3. Add a little touch of metallic to a bookshelf or coffee table. I’ve talked about how gold and brass are making a comeback here. The above photo is of designer and blogger Emily A Clark’s home. I love the overall look and feel of this space and I love her blog.
4. Clean out a drawer and make it pretty inside by using little tea cups to organize your jewelry like Paige Smith. My friend Cathy loves this idea and has actually done this with one of her drawers.
5. Light a candle or invest in a scentsy. Whenever my friend Michelle visits she always asks what scent I’ve got burning. Truth be told, my husband is the one who is obsessed with scents and loves to have plugins in almost every room. I’ve shared some of my favorite candles here. I love this simple arrangement of candles from Savor Home.
6. Decant liquids that you keep sitting out on counters into pretty bottles and corral kitchen items on a tray like Martha Stewart. I use a glass olive oil decanter for my dish soap. (my father and father-in-law don’t like it, but that’s okay because it’s my house 🙂
7. Change your pillows out for the season with new pillows. I like to buy feather pillow inserts and then rotate pillow covers. I love Pottery Barn’s pillow covers and I also shared a similar option in this splurge vs. steal post.
8. My morning ritual starts with a cup of coffee. I love Melissa from The Inspired Room’s coffee station. If you enjoy drinking coffee or tea on a daily basis consider creating your own station. Display pretty mugs, a canister filled with coffee or tea, sugar, and of course your coffee pot. I set up a hot chocolate station which I kept on my counter this past winter. I think the key is having a nice tray to corral all of your items so that it doesn’t look like a hodgepodge of stuff on your counter.
9. Update a chest of drawers or cabinets with knobs or pulls. I’m loving all of the DIY Campaign dressers that are popular right now. Paint a dresser and add the hardware for a similar look. Image via Arizona Foothills Magazine.
10. Clear your counters of papers and put stuff away instead of letting it pile up. This last tip shouldn’t be overlooked because it can do wonders for your space and it doesn’t cost a dime. I shared some tips from the book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up here. I have friends visiting this weekend and need to do some tidying up as soon as I finish this post.
Are you inspired by any of these ideas? If so, which one or feel free to leave another easy tip to make your space beautiful. Please share in the comments section.

Thanks Christine! They are so simple to do, but it’s easy to overlook the little things.

So many great ideas here! I have an overabundance of tea cups left from an Alice in Wonderland party I hosted. I love the idea of nestling the tea cups in my top dresser drawer to gather my jewelry in. I always keep a throw over a chair in the family room, too. I have only recently started switching out my pillow covers for the season, it is so much easier to have my covers cleaned and stored flat in a linen closet than cleaning and storing actual pillows! Hugs! Chloe

Thanks for sharing Chloe! You should definitely do something cute with those tea cups. I agree that it’s so much easier to store pillow covers than pillows. I’m in search of a few new ones.

Well, I am always a fan of tidying up:) But I’d probably say “organizing up” or “restoring order”.. don’t just shove it all in a drawer! I switched out pillows, curtains and my throw for spring and I love it. And I know that in a few months, I’ll be hankering for cozy and will bring back the burgundy…

Good point Seana! I need to do some order restoring around my home. We are having our master bathroom updated so it will be a good time for me to go through all of my bathroom cabinets and drawers.
