“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” I love this quote by Walt Disney. I recently had an experience where curiosity led me down a new path and helped me get out of a rut.
I read a blog called the Decor Fix by Heather Freeman and noticed that Heather had changed the path of her blog from a lifestyle blog to a decorating blog. She gives great design advice and I really love her writing style. I could tell that something had changed in her and she had really focused in on her purpose. Because I have many passions such as food, photography, decorating, books, and travel I sometimes feel all over the place, but not an expert at any one thing. I was so curious about how Heather had arrived at this point of clarity that I decided to email her about it.
Heather offers design coaching, but what I was really interested in was how she was able to switch gears and what helped her find her purpose. I took a leap and asked the question while trying not to sound too out there or embarrass myself and guess what? Two other people had asked her the same thing within about a 48 hour time period. She sweetly replied to my email and I had a creative coaching session with her which is something she doesn’t advertise. She has led me to read some great books and given me some great questions to think about. More importantly it was great to feel understood on where I am in my blog journey by someone who has been through it and felt the same way.
My lesson in all of this is there are no stupid questions. Years ago Diane Sawyer shared her thoughts on curiosity in a Master Class interview with Oprah. She shared a story she read of a great physicist who won a Nobel Prize. When he got home from school the boy’s father would ask him every day not what he learned in school, but did he ask any great questions. Diane said, ” I always thought, what a beautiful way to educate kids that we’re excited by their questions, not by our answers and whether they can repeat our answers.”
Let curiosity be your guide. If you are curious about anything I’ve shared please leave me a comment or shoot me an email.

Wow. What an amazing thought about asking the boy if he had asked any great questions. I will try to remember to pass that on to my daughter as her daughters grow. Living in the Disney created ‘town’ of Celebration, I can’t help by be aware of so many quotes by the great Walt Disney, this is one of them I wasn’t that familiar with, it is nice to read and to ponder. I am going to head over to check out Heather’s blog. I, too, feel sometimes I am all over the place, but I really want to stay in my niche which I believe is everything “home”. Can that just be a niche? Home encompansses so many things, decor, entertaining, organizing, family. I struggle a little with keeping my blog in a niche. Sometimes I do or experience wonderful things I just want to share with my readers, but they don’t quite fit. I am fortunate to have a fantastic blog advisor who is great at keeping me on point and focused and moving forward in the direction I want to go in.

Home can definitely be a niche and as you said it encompasses so many things. I can definitely tell you have a passion for throwing parties Chloe. I love the creativity of it all, but there is a lot of work that goes into that people don’t realize until you throw one. Sometimes I like the idea of things more than I do the doing. I’m at a point in my life where I’m really trying to simplify things. It’s great that you have an advisor to help keep you focused. I’ve read a lot of great books recently that are helping to re-inspire me. I’m sure you are inspired every day living in Celebration.
