Today is National Dog Day! Some people might think it’s strange to have a day designated for dogs, but not me. Dogs remind us of some of life’s simple joys and can teach us many lessons. I love my four-legged furry friend. He keeps me company during the day and is a joy to be around 99.5 % of the time. Why not 100%? Everyone has their moments. I don’t know of anyone that is a joy 100%.
If you’ve followed my blog for a while you may have already read about my dog Fritz here and here. Fritz is a miniature schnauzer and is our family’s first dog. I’m not sure if we just got really lucky or I have a knack for picking out dogs, but he is the perfect dog for our family. I listened to my intuition and it didn’t steer me wrong. Actually my husband would say intuition mixed with a little emotional attachment.
Fritz was the subject of my Christmas card this year and he didn’t complain about having his picture taken unlike the humans in my family.
Fritz reminds me of some of the simple joys in life and has taught me a few lessons:
- Stop and smell the roses or in his case fire hydrants and other dog’s behinds.
- It pays to be persistent and repetitious. Fritz has scored numerous treats standing by our pantry door at various times during the day.
- Play hard
- Take naps when you need them. In his case, several times a day.
- Observe your surroundings and notice the beauty in life. In Fritz’s case squirrels and rabbits.
- LOVE- Fritz loves unconditionally and loves to snuggle with us.
- Be curious- He loves to check things out.
Celebrate National Dog Day by giving your furry friend or friends a treat and some extra love today! If you don’t have a dog give your neighbor dog a little pat on the back or consider rescuing one. Not all dogs I’ve encountered are friendly so go with your gut. If you are a dog lover this post and this post will make you SMILE. Please share in the comments what you’ve learned from dogs.

Ha! #2 on your list made me laugh out loud! What a very good example of persistence. Our Rex has been a complete joy to our family and our lives surely would not have been the same without him. Thanks for the reminder…guess who will get a extra treat this morning?

Hope Rex had a good day! Fritz did not like the storms this morning. That’s where the .5% comes in 🙂

I really love my dogs so much! Glad there is such a thing as national dog day! I really appreciate the companionship that dogs provide. I also think something we can learn from dogs is loyalty to their families (especially to the one that feeds them!;) )
