The month of September was filled with some fun outings around the Kansas City area. This time of year there are lots of festivals and activities happening. Now that we are into October it’s officially pumpkin season and I can’t wait to take fall pictures as the leaves change colors. If you’re on instagram I’d love for you to share your instagram pictures using the #joyfulinstasmiles hashtag so I can check out your pictures as well. Timing is everything on social media, but if you use a hashtag you’re able to search for pictures with that hashtag and see what others are sharing. Here is a little bit about each picture:
- Shuttlecocks by Claes Oldenburg and Coojse van Bruggen is one of the most popular sculptures at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The shuttlecocks can be found on the lawn at the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum. The Nelson-Atkins also has a wonderful sculpture garden which is not to be missed.
- My friend and I visited the Four Seasons exhibit which is on display at the Nelson-Atkins until April 17, 2016. Artist and Filmmaker, Phillip Haas created 15-foot-tall sculptures of the Four Seasons which are located on the south lawn. They are 3-dimensional interpretations of the Italian Renaissance painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s portrait series. The sculpture pictured is of fall and my other favorite is winter which is pictured below.
- The pumpkin spice latte is back at Starbucks which is always a good thing in my book. Starbucks has also come out with a toasted graham latte that is delicious.
- We are big Royal’s baseball fans and the guy pictured with my friend and I is a huge Mike Moustakas fan. I’m not sure how he got the moose antlers through security, but he was making the rounds at the game taking pictures with whoever wanted one. It was one of those opportunities I couldn’t resist. This was the night the Royal’s won the Central Division Championship. It was an exciting game and lots of good people watching.
- My friend Alicia took the picture at the KC Chiefs Stadium. I love the sky and fireworks in the background, the sea of red, and the American Flag prominently displayed on the football field. If you’re a Kansas City Chiefs fan I hope you entered for a chance to win the Farmland Red Hot Tailgate Experience.
- The last picture is of the Kansas City Plaza Art Fair. It has been years since I’d been to the Art Fair and I really wanted to make it happen this year. It was a beautiful night with good friends, food and interesting art.
I have something I’ve been working on over the past month which I’m excited to share with you next week. In the meantime, get out and enjoy the fall weather and festivities. Don’t forget to share your fall pictures using #joyfulinstasmiles on instagram.
