Happy New Year! I hope your 2016 is filled with trying and experiencing new things. I created an eBook last year with 31 suggestions on how to live curiously and get out of your box (follow the link to download). To help keep you on track I’m sharing a printable calendar featuring a different challenge each month. You can #livecuriously with me or select a different challenge from my eBook.
The challenge for January is to visit a museum you’ve never been to in your city. If you’re short on museums in your area it can be one you’d like to visit one day. Do a little research and put it on your bucket list to visit in the near future.
I can’t wait to share with you what I learned from the museum I visited in Kansas City. I’m doing my challenge a little ahead of you all so I have time to prepare my post and pictures. It can be tough to get out of the house during the typically cold month of January. During the dreary days of winter I just want to snuggle under a blanket with a good book and warm beverage in hand. That is precisely why I chose this challenge for this month. I feel so much better if I get out of the house and do something from time to time, but sometimes I need that extra push from a friend.
I’ve shared a few pictures from museums I’ve visited on the calendar. Feel free to print it and use it to schedule your own outing. Things happen when you set a date for them! Because I fancy a top 10 list here is a list of The Top 10 Travelers’ Choice Museums in the United States according to Trip Advisor.
I’m happy to say that I’ve visited half of the museums on this list. I haven’t been to the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum in Seattle, but I did see one of his exhibits at the Botanical Gardens in Arizona. His work is amazing. If you’ve ever been to The Bellagio in Las Vegas then you’ve seen his beautiful glass flowers hovering over you in the lobby area.
If you find yourself in Las Vegas with teens I’ve shared a few things to do in this post. Also, if you have young kids at home a children’s museum counts as a get out of your box challenge. When my children were younger we visited many children’s museums in the Kansas City area like Wonderscope and Science City. The City Museum in St. Louis is also wonderful.
I hope you’re up for the challenge and will play along. Museums are a great way to expand your curiosity. Please share in the comments one of your favorite museums.
And don’t forget to download the January 2016 calendar!

I love The Nelson Atkins, we are so lucky to have access to it. I also like to see the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio in Kansas City, MO.
In Chicago or Phoenix, the Frank Lloyd Wright museums are really cool. In the future, I’d like to go to Concordia, KS and visit the National Orphan Train Complex…..kind of random, but I just read the book and then noticed the sign on I-70.

I love The Nelson Atkins as well. I’ve never been to the Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio. I should add that to my list as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright museums. I’ve also had the Orphan Train on my list of books to read.

I am going to head over to the Morse Museum in Winter Park, Florida, it has an extensive display of Louis Comfort Tiffany glass and other works. I am looking forward to taking a relaxing day of exploring the museum and a nice lunch in Winter Park.
