I like to pick a word for the year and Pantone picks a color of the year. This year two colors were selected, Rose Quartz and Serenity. According to Pantone, “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” You might be asking who is Pantone and what do these colors have to do with anything? If you’re curious, read on.
Pantone is a subsidiary of X-Rite, Inc. and is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems for a wide range of industries including: fashion, home design, consumer products, and more. Pantone colors are chosen as a reflection of what they see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude. This is the first year Pantone has chosen two shades which represent sort of the blur in gender identities. Caitlyn Jenner comes to mind here. According to Pantone, “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”
I’ve been gradually updating some rooms in my home including my bedroom. I picked out the quilt above from West Elm which is very similar to Serenity Blue before I knew it was a color of the year. I paired it with some salmon color pillows I already had from Pottery Barn and I’ve had the paisley shams for years. I wanted to pull out the mustard gold color and found some pillow cases with a small mustard gold print at Target.
When it comes to fashion, I’ve never been a huge fan of pink except for the pink and grey Hang Ten sweatshirt I wore all the time as teenager; my now husband nicknamed it my Sunday shirt. However, I do like a pale or peachy pink. Real Simple shares 8 Pantone Color of the Year Fashion Finds like the pale purse above from Zara which I like.

The above graphic shows the colors you’ll be seeing more of in fashion this spring. There are endless possibilities when it comes to pairing these colors with each other.
Are you a fan of either color and how would you incorporate them into your home or wardrobe?

I like the lilac gray! It is in my new updated office Some of the colors are so bold like the green and blue. I can see popping the blue. I have noticed in Target more of these colors this Spring in the home decor. Thanks for the writing a beautiful, articulate article, as always Dawn! You met your calling!

These colors are perfect for my coastal look in the new place! I have just about finished the first guest room and it is the prettiest pale blue with a beautiful ruffly bedspread! I just need to find the right window treatments! I once read to wear pink as you age, it makes you look younger! Thankfully, I look good in pink!
