It’s that time of the month for a new Get Out Of Your Box Challenge. I can’t believe it’s already April 1. This month’s challenge is easy and something you probably already do. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at a restaurant you’ve never tried. My family eats out quite a bit and we can get into a rut of going to our favorite places close to home. Fortunately there are quite a few dining options in the Kansas City area that it would take us at least a year to try every one. There are also new places popping up every few months.
These are a few restaurants I’ve shared in past posts that I’ve enjoyed. If you live in the Kansas City area perhaps you’ll find one you haven’t tried.
Martin City Brewery is located in a little brick building next to the railroad tracks. It’s not very big, but it has a nice beer garden where you can sit outside during the warmer months. I’ve only been there a few times, but one of my favorite things on the menu is the fried goat cheese salad.
Genesse Royale is located in Kansas City, Missouri and is very close to the West Bottoms . The West Bottoms is a great place to go antiquing on the first weekend of every month. I wrote about the West Bottoms back in 2013 and just recently updated my post with a few more places and photos. You can read about it here.
The Webster House is located in Kansas City, Missouri and it’s right next to the Kauffman Center. It’s a great place to have dinner and then watch a performance at the beautiful Kauffman Center. I have eaten there for both lunch and dinner. It also has a nice little gift shop located inside the house. They sell Pickwick candles which are locally made and one of my favorites.
The first time I came across Chez Elle I thought I was transported to Europe. The building is so different from the others on Summit Street. If you love crepes then this is your place. Another great restaurant on Summit that I love is West End Local.
I could go on for days about restaurants. If you follow me on Instagram I often share other local favorites there. These aren’t my go-to restaurants, but ones that are out of my Johnson County box that I visit every now and then. If you happen to be in the Seaside, Florida area I shared some of my favorite Seaside places here. I’ve also shared 10 great places to eat and drink in Chicago.
Food is like love. It’s a universal language we all speak. I promise next month I will have a challenge that doesn’t relate to food and it’s also one of my favorite topics. And surprise, it’s not books. I’m enjoying coming up with #livecuriously challenges and I’m curious to know if you enjoy them as well? Please leave me a comment and also share at least one of your favorite restaurants. It doesn’t have to be in the Kansas City area. I love to travel and I’m always looking for recommendations.
Don’t forget to download the April Calendar. You can use it to write down some of the new restaurants you’d like to try.

I have been to Webster House it’s very good! When we are on vacation we tend to try different place to eat. Some of my favorite places to eat was when we were in Scotland. Can’t remember the names off the top of my head I’m sure they are in my scrapbook. But what I remember most is how friendly people were….food was good to though;)

Good customer service is always a plus! You can have a great meal, but if the service is horrible after several tries I usually won’t go back. We loved Scotland too!

This is a challenge I am happy to embrace – what fun! We ate at a new restaurant (for us) in NYC last night. It was okay, but not sure I would go again. Always an experience to try something new, especially if I go crazy and order something I’ve never tried!

Good for you Seana! It’s easy to go to places you already know especially when you have a go-to dish you enjoy. I think that’s why I always try to get recommendations when I’m traveling. There’s comfort in the familiarity, but you never know when you just might discover a little known treasure.

Challenge accepted! We live in a small town so our options are limited BUT there is a new sandwich and soup place that recently opened that I have not been to yet. 🙂
