The popularity of curbside eating at food trucks is growing in the Kansas City area. Food trucks have been around for years, but seem to have become more of a trend in the last few years. My Live Curiously Challenge for this month was to try a new restaurant or cafe. I decided to to take it a step further and attended a food truck rally which occurs the first Friday of every month in downtown Kansas City. This month has been crazy for me with clearing out a house we sold and helping my parents relocate to a new home. I’ve been doing a lot of eating out and takeout meals. Things have been a little quiet on my blog, but I hope to share a lot more in May. As the weather gets warmer food trucks can be a great way to try some local specialties.
I didn’t get a chance to try anything from Wilma’s, but I love the truck.
The stuffed chicken wings were recommended to us from Bochi, but I have to admit they were okay, but not my favorite. I’m more of a buffalo wing kind of gal. You can check out their Facebook page here.
I have tried El Tendor’s food before and loved it. They are often parked at Somerset Ridge Winery on the weekends. They serve Spanish cuisine and I do mean cuisine. I’m surprised at the dishes these ladies create in such a small truck. Check out their Facebook page here.
My favorite part of a meal is dessert. This is the cinnamon sugar Liege waffle in blue to honor the Kansas City Royals. You can check out The Waffler here.
Beauty of the Bistro wasn’t at the rally, but I’ve ordered food from her several times. She often parks at spots in the Johnson County area. You can check out the details on the Beauty of the Bistro Facebook page. The tacos and crawfish mac and cheese are delicious!
Are you scared to eat at food trucks? If so, have I enticed you to give them a try? I love to eat al fresco on a beautiful sunny day. Have you tried any of these food trucks or do you have a favorite? Please share in the comments.

Thanks Shelley. I just saw several of them lined up the other day in a parking lot near the Church of the Resurrection.

I like food trucks, I think it’s a great way to try something different. I haven’t seen the ones you mentioned but I will look around. Rob will surprise his office a couple of times a year with a food truck stationed outside. Rob says the excitement in the office is worth it:)

That’s awesome Keri! Can I work for Rob or better yet, I’ll just come have lunch 🙂 I have seen other companies do that before.

It was a little chilly the night we went, but the weather has been so nice lately. May or June would be a great time to check it out!

I would love to know where food trucks will be in Johnson County.
I am hooked on a food truck in Springfield MO called London Calling. They serve authentic English pasties. The crusts are amazing and all the flavors I’ve tried are so good. We take a cooler with us everytime we go and load up on frozen pasties.

Oh, and I forgot they have an authentic double decker bus where you can enjoy your pasties. It’s SO cool!! AND I forgot to mention their sticky pudding is amazing. I have food dreams about it! LOL

That sounds really cool Jeanene, now I want to go to Springfield just to check it out. I know that Beauty of the Bistro is often in Johnson County. They all have a Facebook page, but I don’t know if there is somewhere you can look to see where all of them will be. I would try googling food truck rallies in Johnson County.
